Memory Card Gaiden : Toppling the Stack (Archival)
Hi! This is your friendly neighbourhood Catherine dropping into your inboxes with an update. Chris Best, co-founder & CEO of Substack, put out an article yesterday praising Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg for being bastions of free speech. You can read it here : https://read.substack.com/p/the-fight-for-free-speech-in-2025
"Elon Musk has been a vocal supporter of free speech... he deserves a lot of credit for advancing freedom of speech on X, before it was popular and in the face of fierce criticism and opposition."
"Mark Zuckerberg recently announced favorable changes in policy for Meta that should result in freer expression on its platforms. His stated reasons were a change in public sentiment and a new administration, reflecting a real change in the culture. Those who welcome the press freedom changes at Meta owe a debt to those who took a principled stand when the wind was blowing the other way."
Musk has systematically gutted Twitter since being forced to purchase it, whilst Zuckerberg has removed content moderation and hidden search results for political terms. Suffice to say, I'm not in agreement with Substack and after trying to turn a blind eye to the platform's biases for a while, I'm done with it.
There are some rough edges but I've transferred everything I had on Substack, including all of you lot, to Ghost. The tool was recommended to me by Chris Person of Aftermath and it's honestly a dream to use.
I still need to connect a custom domain and do a few other things before I can finish the transfer and send out new emails through it, so I’m sending this update to you all now. This completely derailed my work on this week’s installment, but here’s a hint as to what it’s about. Hopefully it will be up in a few days and one day early on Patreon.
