Times & Galaxy

The Summer of Demos - Day Twenty-One

Times & Galaxy

It’s your first day on the job at the award-winning holopaper Times & Galaxy and you’ve got a lot to prove. Not only are you the universe’s first Reporterbot, you’re also an intern with only 17 cycles to make an impact.

The demo features two assignments credited to individual writers : “Out Of The Factory, Into The Fire” by Ben Gelinas (Creative Director and former Journalist) and “Cosmic Cats Fancy The Crown” by Sunny Evans (Narrative Designer) that let players get to grips with the gameplay. Explore the area, ask questions, rummage around and maybe get too involved in the story

There’s no bombarding people with questions until you exhaust their dialogue here; you need to choose your questions carefully out of the options available (or flirt - Copychaser Games previously developed Speed Dating For Ghosts) as you won’t even be able to strike up conversation with most characters twice. The Switch demo did mislead me as the exclamation mark above characters’ heads, which indicates that you can and should talk to them, sometimes stayed there even though I could not talk to them again. There were also some hitches in the animation and general running of the demo, so I may err towards the PC version myself.

Once you’re done gathering quotes and evidence, head back to your shuttle and use the Build-A-Story tool to shape the article. Will you print just the facts? Will you aim for the heart with an Alien Interest story? Will you print only the loudest quotes? How you write your articles will determine the paper’s reputation and readership, so choose your words wisely.

In a word : newsworthy
