While Waiting
The Summer of Demos - Day Twenty-Nine

When you were younger, hours felt like days and days felt like years. Now, especially with the easy access of modern media, time seems to fly by. In this game, you’ll get dragged all the way back to those endless car rides and long winter nights where all you had to kill time was your imagination.
Levels in the game cover the boring parts of life and death, with ten available in the demo. These tackle luggage collection, theme park queues and traffic jams, among other things sure to delight. The scope of control varies, but you move yourself or the cursor with WASD and push the spacebar to interact with whatever’s in reach from flushing urinals to pinning up posters.

In every level, you can complete one objective by doing nothing at all. By replaying and tinkering with levels, you can decipher their associated stickers to complete the other objectives, which is where the real fun of the game lies. The objective names that appear at the start of each level may rob you of some discovery, but they’re often vague.
No matter what you do (outside of pausing the download you’re waiting on in one level), time will pass no matter what you do. While Waiting merely asks that you think about how best to spend it.
In a word : patient.

While Waiting is an upcoming patient puzzle game developed and published by Optillusion (Moncage) for PC via Steam. All images used copyright of Optillusion unless otherwise stated.
This article is part of the Summer of Demos series, where I’ll be releasing a Demo Diving preview article each day in July. If you liked this article, be sure to share it with a friend or enemy. If you back me on Patreon, you get access to articles one day before they release anywhere else. If we reach £25/month before the end of July, I’ll extend the Summer of Demos into August.
